Who is YEG Connect?

YEG Connect is part of the national network of Immigrant Employment Councils of Canada (IECC), working together to simplify the process of hiring internationally trained professionals. YEG Connect, like the Alberta Immigrant Mentorship Network (AIMN), is an Edmonton Region Immigrant Employment Council (ERIEC) project. While AIMN supports career and economic integration of new immigrants through mentorship, YEG Connect focuses on employer needs in the Edmonton region.

What is YEG Connect's Goal?

Addressing the talent shortage is a growth imperative. Employer voices can help bridge the gap.

YEG Connect engages directly with employers across multiple sectors in Edmonton to hear their hiring concerns firsthand. Our goal is to use these employer insights to provide resources and advocacy needed to simplify the process of hiring internationally trained professionals. Our focus sectors are tech, manufacturing, construction, and care economy, and our insights and solutions will be shared with The National Network of Immigrant Employment Councils (IECC).

YEG Connects recent research shows that the biggest barrier to hiring internationally trained talent is employer uncertainty. Inspired by direct conversations with employers, YEG Quick Connects are easy-to-read, research-based resources, tailored to assist employers in moments of uncertainty. The concise, practical guidance in these resources is easy to understand in five minutes or less. Explore YEG Quick Connects resources below.

YEG Connect, led by the Edmonton Region Immigrant Employment Council (ERIEC) is part of a national coalition of Immigrant Employment Councils, working together to simplify and strengthen the process of hiring newcomers and internationally trained professionals. Funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, YEG Connect aims to make it easier for employers to recruit the skills, experience, and diverse perspectives of immigrants while helping build a more inclusive Canadian workforce. We also thank the Government of Alberta for funding our regional hub.
